This weekend, on Saturday morning I got up with the sun. Well..before the sun if we’re being technical.
Dawn is my favourite part of the day as the world of people is still asleep while the world of wildlife is already buzzing. On this day the Bald Eagles, Great Blue, Green and Black Crowned Night Herons were flying too and fro. Great Egrets kept their distance from the photographers giant lenses and the Ospreys were announcing to the world their presence with their loud and proud calls. Insects were pollinating, songbirds were chirping and the sky provided some drama. The peace of the sunrise hours is a blessing in that it gives me a an opportunity to start a day in a mindful place. Easing into the day with a sense of serenity and gratefulness is something that I (we) don’t get enough of as my (our) day-to-day is usually an alarm violently pulling me (us) from my (our) slumber, most likely announcing the start of another workday.

The fall colours are starting to come in and the migrants have started making their way back south. Most obvious to me were the flocks of Blue Jays and Black-capped Chickadees who were working their way through the trees. Warblers and other songbirds I’m sure were in the mix as well, but I did not see any.

I love seeing the beauty of the transitioning seasons and I left this hike filled to the brim with appreciation and wonder for the beauty this world provides us.
