A Quiet Morning in the Marsh

Dim daylight slowly illuminates the quiet marsh.
As it rises, the sun reveals wild creatures and the season’s autumnal colours.
Greens, yellows and oranges in the trees and the blades of the cattails’ grasses. Brilliant white, a Great Egret perched on deadwood preens and plucks his feathers and inspects for parasites under his wings.

Out of the muddy, murky depths, shades of brown and beige emerge abruptly from the water with a splash. A Cormorant perches on a fallen tree and shakes off the lake with vigour. From the nearby trees a variety of chirps and calls can be heard.

Tiny flashes of yellow, gray, brown, and white. Songbirds flutter from here to there. Catching late season bugs, and squishing fresh berries from the bushes in their beaks, a juicy sweet treat. A Quiet Morning in the Marsh.
